Serie A - Angry Inter deny Ibrahimovic deal

Italian champions Internazionale angrily denied reports in Spain that star striker Zlatan Ibrahmovic is on the verge of a move to Barcelona.

Sweden star Ibrahimovic has been linked to the Spanish treble winners since Inter's Champions League exit to Liverpool in April, and the rumours intensified when the Catalan press claimed a player-plus-cash deal involving Samuel Eto'o.

The reports prompted the Nerazzurri to hit back.

"During the transfer window, a headline in a newspaper is enough to transform groundless rumours into truth," a statement by the Milan-based club said. "This is what has happened today after the article published in Barcelona newspaper El Mundo Deportivo about a presumed deal between Inter and (Barcelona).

"Besides being completely unfounded, the presumed deal seems remote from any logic, even to the eyes of neutral observers.

"The report is, therefore, groundless."

Argentine striker Julio Cruz will leave, however, after finding his chances limited last term.

"Cruz has been fundamental for us," Inter president Massimo Moratti told Inter's TV channel.

"Players like that don't deserve to be reserves so it is right they find space in other teams.

"I am not pushing to sell players, we will see what offers arrive. Certainly, given it's the transfer window, someone will leave."

He added that defender Marco Materazzi's contract had been extended to 2012.

  1. darlingtonjames your logic is unsound.....Seria A and­ the Premier League have a history of passing on their­ players to Spanish clubs once they have learned to be­ the best players possible in the EPL and Seria A.

    How­ many players have made the reverse trip - how many­ great players came from La Liga and made the move the­ other way a great success - very few. Current exception­ in EPL is of course Torres - a gifted player.

  11. Bringing Ibra could give some Aerial edge to Barca­ strikers.. but Etto's history with the club is­ equal to what dinho gave to Barca during that upheaval­ time.. 05-06 season. Ribery might not move out of­ Bayern lock and May be Benzema would be an option.. I­ dont know why Toni claims Barca is interested in­ him...Barca needs a winger.
    Sylvinho, Marquez, Gaby­ millito can be loaned for some new replacements...

  16. I hope Ibrahimovic does not come to­ Barcelona.

    Although he is a very good player, he's­ arrogance and character would damage Barca from­ inside.
    He has no loyalty, as proven by his exit from­ Juve. And he's not a nice player, proven by his­ arrogant statements ('you're [Inter] nothing­ without me) and his ugly gesture recently against his­ own fans.

    I like Barcelona first and foremost because­ of charismatic and decent players; he's none of­ that.
    He's playing style would fit that of Barca,­ but again: it is his character that I'm afraid of.­ He allegedly professed that he wants to leave because­ he cannot win CL at Inter (unclear why not, since they­ were able to win a tough league). That is really­ selfish. Ibra, best wishes, but have fun elswhere.
