Captain John Terry believes England's coolness under pressure is evidence of the progress made under Fabio Capello.
England can virtually make sure of their place in the 2010 World Cup finals if they chalk up a seventh successive win in their group against Andorra at Wembley on Wednesday evening.
Terry said: "Last time they sat back at Wembley and that was a bit different for us. We played in their half and things were difficult."
He added: "We need to start well, certainly better than we did the other night against Kazakhstan. Everyone expects us to win against Andorra which makes it a little bit tougher. If we score early, we can make it easier.
"But we did well the other night by not panicking early on. We kept the ball, even though a lot of passes were going astray, and stayed patient and that's where we got our joy.
"Maybe a year or two years ago we'd have tried to force the issue, but we had that inner-confidence that, sooner or later, we'd get a goal. Maybe in the past we'd have panicked."
Terry knows the importance of maintaining concentration in the sort of game that England will be expected to win at a canter.
He said: "It's one of those games where you have to concentrate, for me and Matty (Upson) to keep talking, instructing players in front of us, making sure they're doing the right thing and that no-one is taking too many touches on the ball.
"It's important we move the ball quickly. The quicker we move it, the quicker we get it into wide areas, the better. We'll benefit by doing that.
"We've got the quality of Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney and David Beckham if he plays."

Terry haters......support the TEAM or f*** off. Your not welcome, probably the sort of people who boo their own team. Yellow bellied gobshites the lot of you.
unzwa, Portugal????? Check their results and their history in the last 10 or 20 years and you will find they are average. They had Figo otherwise they would have been as good as Andora.
This is a wishful, to recall that England is playing weak teams at the qualifying stage. This squad is not good enough to play the Spain, Holland, Portugal, Brazil and so on.
TERRYS A DI;;K
Terry would say that yeh, otherwise he will not be captain. Scrapearse. He is a slave paid a lot for kicking a ball.

Everytime England think about their "Superb" start to the campaign should remember the teams in thier group. Taking nothing away from the England team (who i support), they have done well. But achievement can only be claimed IF we reach at least the last 4 of the world cup. WHY only the last 4 you ask? Cause, i don't think we are a good a team as Spain, France, Brazil, Argentina... far from it (and i hate to admit that)!
We have some really good players but not that great as a team, but hopefully we will get there one day.
If we want to win a major trophy then look no further than SPAIN, if we can play as good as them then we stand a chance to win something. They showed us up not too long ago and it was a great game of football FROM SPAIN!
john terry saying we did good the other day it was against a load of borats england have got quaility but they need 2 show it more
well said mal my sentiments excatly
TERRY COME ON MAN YOU HAVE PLAYED NO ONE YET, ENGLAND ARE S***T AND IT WILL TELL WHEN YOU COME UP AGAINST THE BIG BOYS YOU SAY WE'VE GOT THE QUALITY WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT
IT LOOKS TO ME YOU ARE TALKING OUT OF YOUR A*** HOLE.
its progress when we win something, not until!!!!!!!!!!
