Former Grimsby goalkeeper Phil Barnes has joined Blue Square Conference North side Gainsborough Trinity.

The 30-year-old spent the final few months of last season at Gainsborough on a non-contract basis after his release from Grimsby and has now put pen-to-paper on a permanent deal.

Gainsborough chairman Peter Swann told the Grimsby Telegraph: "Phil brings experience to the team and is an excellent signing for the club.

"He's the final piece in the jigsaw for our squad and I'm chuffed with the players we have got."
