Davie Hay has told Tony Mowbray the key to success at Celtic is a simple one - be better than Rangers.
It may have been more than 20 years since Hay last occupied the Parkhead hotseat but the former Hoops boss claims the job has not changed too much in that time.
"That was the case in my time and it hasn't changed. There is maybe more media scrutiny now and there is more intense media coverage."
Celtic's search for a new manager has dominated the back pages since Strachan's decision to quit 24 hours after losing the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title to Rangers.
However, Hay does not believe their rivals across the city will be paying too much attention to goings on at Celtic Park over the summer.
"I think when you are at Celtic and Rangers you just get on with your own job," he said.
"Whatever happens at either side, you concentrate on yourself. You deal with each other when you play each other."
Hay - who has also managed Livingston and Dunfermline - briefly returned to the helm at Almondvale for Livi's final two games of the season.
But, with a vacancy at Falkirk and, possibly, Motherwell in the coming days, he claims he has no interest in a full-time return to management.
"I still like my involvement in football on the periphery but I've had my shot," said Hay. "I enjoyed it but I'll leave that to other guys who are seeking employment."
