Valdano: Real negotiating Ronaldo deal

Wed 10 Jun, 05:13 PM

Real Madrid general director Jorge Valdano claims the club are already in negotiations with Manchester United over Cristiano Ronaldo.

Reports in Spain suggest that new Madrid president Florentino Perez has been in talks with the Barclays Premier League club and are on the verge of breaking their own world record transfer, in euros terms, set just a few days ago for Kaka, to bring Ronaldo to the Bernabeu.

Valdano told TVE: "I can only talk about players who are on their way here, not about those we are in negotiations over. He is a great professional, he dedicates a very great deal of time to his work. He is a great footballer and a very good professional."

Ronaldo has been enjoying the close season, spending time in Sardinia and Los Angeles. The 24-year-old obviously enjoys the trappings of his fame, but Valdano insists he is still the perfect player for Madrid.

"According to the information we have managed to obtain, he is an excellent professional," he added.

"You don't get the player's body he has, which is a footballing advertisement, without working a great deal.

"Another thing is that his reputation as an officially good-looking guy, and a social or advertising model, blurs his image a bit. He is a great footballer."

Speculation has been rife in the Spanish capital about new arrivals at the Bernabeu ever since the return of Perez, who presided over the famous 'Galacticos' era at the club. And while they are reportedly ready to pay 89 million euros for Ronaldo, Valdano has revealed they will not break the bank for Valencia striker David Villa.

"He is an excellent striker but he has a prohibitive price," he said. "He is a player who interests us, but only at a reasonable price. There's a long way to the start of the season and the summer is very long - these comings and goings will be very interesting.

"They have written about hundreds of players who dream about coming to Real Madrid and it's logical that one of those will end up in the side."

  6. I said it last time this came up at the end of last season, Because he had admitted he had always wanted to play for Real Madrid, Then Ldt him go and become one of the "also rans" in the Real Madrid side, Kaka will be there and lots of other far superior Players. It happened to Beckham and it will Happen to Ronaldo, so if he wants it to happen sooner than later he should go NOW!!

  8. I think Machester united should not sell Cristiano Ronaldo for now because i see him as the best player machester united have for now.And one thing about this guy is that he can do any thing at any time in field of play.

  9. They never give up, do they?
They certainly can't erase Ronaldo's name from their most-wanted list.
Then it's up to Ferguson to pursue him to stay at OT.
They keep stealing other clubs' players, but can't make their own stars out of their junior squad.

BUT AT THE END, IT'S NOT ABOUT BUILDING A DREAM TEAM.
    IT'S ABOUT WINNING.

  14. £80m, you can have him, what a great bit of business that would be for a player that no longer wants to play for utd. Utd could get eto, huntelaar and ribery for that and still have change for a decent central midfielder. come on utd, take the money and run

  16. Didn't they say they already have an agreement in place?
This is sounding more and more like the Liverpool fans' saying "Next year we will win it.".
