Rotherham must pay the Football League "an irrevocable bond" of £750,000 in order play at the Don Valley Stadium next season. The Football League have insisted on the financial commitment to go alongside the club's word that they will be ready to move into a new purpose-built stadium within four years.
A Football League statement read: "To assist the new company in completing its application, the Board decided to remind it that a club is ordinarily required to play its matches in its existing town.
"In Rotherham United's case, if the new company were to confirm an application to play elsewhere on a temporary basis then before giving permission the Board would require it to agree to return to Rotherham within a period of four years and also to lodge an irrevocable bond of £750,000."
The Millers, placed in administration in March, have also been reminded by the League that they must pay off all their football creditors in full and exit administration via a Company Voluntary Agreement if they are to avoid starting the new season with a 15-point penalty.
Rotherham were forced to quit Millmoor, their home for 101 years, in May after new owner Tony Stewart was unable to reach an agreement with current landlord Ken Booth.
