Rangers newcomer Kyle Lafferty has no intention of sitting on the sidelines and admiring the view at Ibrox.
The 20-year-old is one of three forwards brought to Ibrox this summer for a combined total of around £7million, alongside Kenny Miller and Andrius Velicka.
Provided no forwards leave, they face competition from last season's top scorer, Kris Boyd, Jean-Claude Darcheville and Daniel Cousin, the strikers Walter Smith used most in the club's run to the UEFA Cup final.
Lafferty is determined to hold down a regular place but he will not mope on the touchline if he is left out.
"I'm not just looking forward to bidding for a place in the side," the former Burnley forward told Rangers News.
"I don't really want to play two or three games at a time then get dropped for a couple as well.
"It is important for me to make a good impression, although I know how difficult that will be with the number of strikers that are at the club.
"I'm not 21 until September so I know I'm at the stage where I'll have to work my socks off to get into the team and I'm not assured of a place.
"You just have to look at the strikers who were already at the club before I arrived, not to mention the other new ones as well.
"Whenever I'm not in the team, I'll be watching the other players in my position to see what they do.
"Hopefully I'll be able to pick up stuff from them and add it to my game.
"The next while is probably going to be quite a learning curve for me."
Smith is happy with the way the Northern Ireland international has settled in ahead of their trip to Holland and Germany for a pre-season training stint on Saturday.
The Rangers boss said: "Kenny knows the majority of the players anyway, but while Kyle may be taking a little longer, he has already shown he is fitting in well."

Velicka is a pretty decent signing. He's not afraid to shoot. Which is Rangers problem at times. We try to walk the ball into the back of the net at times. Yet all it took from celtic to open us up was a 30 yard screamer.
But as long as we play a decent passing game, Push our fullbacks up and put some pressure on teams.
The league is ours. We're better than we were last season.
And who knows. The tic might make it past the quarterfinals of a cup competition this year.
Just don't expect a result against Caley.
All banter aside, i can't wait to see Rangers being more diverse up front. As it was predictable last season. Having the new boys to use up front will make it harder for the opposition to read into our game. Here's hoping the 4/5/1 is history. We will have to spend big to replace Ferguson in the middle. I'd make Carlos captain, wee Fergie might find it hard wrestling it back from him if the op goes well.
is it just me or can't any1 else believe walter smith payed 3m for this 2 goal a season striker yet he won't pay the same to fulham for steve davies who was brilliant last season maybe its just me
Oh dear gerry o, you talk about lack of inteligence and then go on to say "stalking" at b&q. Tut tut gerry o.
i dont think strachan wanted miller back he was a flop at celtic
Your lack of inteligence astounds me. Maybe the manager wanted them, but we didny. Sorry this needs to be short cause I need to go to Mass and pray that we sign somebody and use the some of the millions we will get from thew Champions League this year in the group stages. PS I hear B&Q are stalking additional basins for you this year.
gerry o is dreamin the sellick manager "wee ginga" DID want kenny MILLER back and yes they DID want kyle LAFFERTY or is this bunch of sour grapes getting bigger with every signin we steal from under your noses AGAIN!!! ha ha gerry o we,ll see in the new season wont we?or just guys like u spoutin @#$% every week.
Sure sour grapes, "Laugh"erty was the atar we Celtic fans wanted. Oh, yeah and we wanted Misser back too, and oh yea Tony Cacarino and Anton Rogan. Gee yersel peace. Roll on the start of the season. We are delighted we didny get him.
i honestly think all the sellick supporters have got a bit of sour grapes regarding the kyle lafferty situation he would have been good enough for their team if they had got him! but no luck ginger the boys from ibrox have done a bit of great buisness with three strikers for 7m
You must be relishing the return of Kenny "Misser"? What a fud!!!
i thought it was combined with wage total. my mistake. however i dont see how he would be such a big hit, i said the same when celtic were after him. as for the biscuit tin, yeah velicka looks like a quiality big money spending. no signings rangers have made this year look to me as money well spent
"Combined total". You know. The total price of all 3 players. Lafferty cost 3 million. And considering your team was willing to break the bank for this guy. I doubt he'll be a flop.
Don't be jealous. I'm sure you're team will be dipping into that biscuit tin soon enough.
i think lafferty is going to be a flop for rangers, they have boyd on the bench who would od a job and they blew 7million on lafferty, im glad celtic didnt sign him
