Kawamura will try out for the Suns in the NBA summer league after deciding to put career before country.

The 193-centimetre guard averaged over 20 points per game for Link Tochigi Brex of the Japan Basketball League last season but the 23-year-old is determined to break into the NBA.

Brex team mate Yuta Tabuse is the only Japanese to have played in the NBA, the diminutive point guard appearing in a handful of games for the Suns during the 2004-05 season.

The summer league begins this weekend.
