Premier League - Everton sign Jo

Eurosport - Fri, 10 Jul 20:31:00 2009

Everton have snapped up Brazilian striker Jo on a season-long loan from Manchester City, subject to the completion of paperwork.

FOOTBALL Striker Jo, who has joined Everton on loan for a second time from Manchester City - 0

The 22-year-old spent five months at Goodison Park last term, and after a week of discussions, the former CSKA Moscow player will spend the next 12 months with the FA Cup finalists.

City initially wanted to sell the former Corinthians man for close to the £18 million fee they signed him for last summer but, with no-one willing to pay, they agreed to loan him back out.

Jo scored five times in 12 appearances for Everton last season, but his future at Eastlands was put in doubt by the arrival of Roque Santa Cruz from Blackburn last month.

The loan deal was initially agreed last weekend and the player travelled to Scotland with Everton for a training camp this week.

Everton's other two summer signings - midfielder Anton Peterlin and defender Skhodran Mustafi - have both received international clearance to feature against Bury.

  1. HUGHES DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE THE BEST USE OF MOST OF HISM PLAYERS. john

  2. We used to call him Jo-ke when he played for us. (City etc)
For what ever reason, he just couldn't perform for us.
Maybe your are right, Hughes just didn't give him the confidence he needed.
I'm not bitter he has gone (on loan) though, as i was pretty pleased for him when he started to play well for Everton.
Other players have done the same when they have left City.

I still don't think that Hughes deserves some of the stick he has been receiving lately.
He took control of one of the richest clubs in the world and was expected to win everything.
That kind of pressure would effect anyone, so maybe he hasn't had the time to be there for every player.
He sorted everything out in the background first.
The training ground/medical centre are vital for success in the long run.
The youth academy was already well sorted, so that just needs protecting.
Once the transfer market dies down should allow Hughesy get on with the real job in hand.

Moyes has done a brilliant with Everton, and an even better job with Jo.
He deserves all the success he gets. But i fear he will struggle without some real money investment...

  13. Only a City fan would say that Jo is rubbish. He came in with a lot of hype at an extremely inflated price because City was involved. Did he live up to the hype? No, he was a 10mil rated player in a side that didn't know what their own lineup was. He's 22 years old and switched between 3 clubs in a year, yet he still managed to score goals with minimal appearances. Don't be bitter because Everton reaped value from your expensive mistake.

  18. I think at this stage, only Moyes can develop Jo into top player. Hughes seems to be too distracted by buying talent, rather than helping younger players to succeed.
