Everton have been warned off Steven Defour after reports they want to pay £13 million for the Belgium midfielder.

FOOTBALL Standard Liege Steven Defour - 0

Defour, 21, is rated as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe after starring for Standard Liege in the Belgian Jupiler League and the UEFA Cup.

The Toffees shelled out a similar figure for compatriot and former Standard team-mate Marouane Fellaini, who was voted Everton's young player of the season and chosen as the best signing of last summer by Premier League managers.

"We really appreciate that Everton want to pay 15 million euros for one of our players, but this does not change our position," Standard general director Pierre Francois said.

"Defour is not transferred this summer, as with (Axel) Witsel and (Dieumerci) Mbokani."
