Premier League - Wigan rebuff Cattermole bid

Eurosport - Fri, 10 Jul 18:07:00 2009

Wigan Athletic have rejected a bid from Sunderland for Lee Cattermole, saying the midfielder is not for sale.

The Black Cats followed up former Latics boss Steve Bruce's interest in the 21-year-old by submitting an undisclosed offer.

However, Wigan rebuffed the bid "within the hour", with new manager Roberto Martinez determined to keep him at the DW Stadium.

Martinez said: "Lee is not for sale. End of story.

"He is a fantastic player, a leader on and off the field, and he is central to our plans going forwards. We are not interested in selling him which is why this offer was rejected immediately."

Sunderland boss Bruce is already hoping to push through his first summer signing over the weekend after agreeing a fee with Manchester United for Fraizer Campbell.

It is understood United have accepted a bid of around £5million for the England U21s international, who has been courted by Hull in recent weeks.

Campbell is expected to head for the north-east to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms as Bruce steps up his efforts to strengthen the squad he inherited from Ricky Sbragia.

I thought, what with him being a 1970's soccer hooligan throw back, he'd be pals with the likes of Nick Griffin; he certainly spouts the same sort of viscious hatred!

  12. 'A seasoned centre-back'?
He's a thug and put at least 3 fellow professionals out of the game last season; his catalogue of disgraceful 'tackles' were even highlighted on Match of the Day, so don't come here denying it you girls! Anyway, why would he want to go to sunderland; wigan are a better club and will finish above them AGAIN next season.
Oh and before you start, Mr scumalsftm, i accessed this via the main links; why are you still continuing to promote your footballing hatred/poison via the NUFC pages - come to think of it, why haven't Yahoo removed your ID from these forums yet?
