Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll must decide whether to bring in a proven Championship striker or a winger with the money received for Richie Wellens.
O'Driscoll will be handed all the money received from Leicester, which could rise to £1.2million, for team strengthening, but is undecided on how best to spend the cash.
He told the club's official website: "We have still got a talented midfield, so do we bring in another midfield player or do we bring somebody in somewhere we feel the squad could be strengthened?
"That's the conundrum we've got. We'd like to do both, but I don't think that is possible. What's available and what we need will decide on what we do."
O'Driscoll added: "We didn't score enough goals last season, so temptation may be that if a striker becomes available, do we bring one in that has a proven pedigree in the Championship and sacrifice bringing in a replacement for Richie or something that we haven't got.
"We haven't really got an out-and-out wide player and that could add something to the squad and give us a different dimension."
