Murphy: Euro too good to be true

Jamie Murphy is hoping his European debut goal will be the first of many for Motherwell this season.

The young striker came off the bench to seal a comfortable 3-0 win over Llanelli, after John Sutton had helped himself to a double.

It was a much-improved performance from the 1-0 defeat Motherwell suffered in new boss Jim Gannon's first game in charge last week.

And Murphy - dropped following the shock reverse at Fir Park - is determined to ensure he has a major role to play in the new regime by targeting plenty of goals.

"It's just good that we won and got through, especially after last week," he told the Evening Times. "Now we're just looking forward to the next game. That was my first goal in Europe and my first of the season, so hopefully there are many more to come from me.

"I was disappointed not to start, of course, but the manager had his reasons. He's the coach and he picks the team, but I'll be looking to start games in future. I think you can tell we're gradually improving and it all bodes well for the future. Hopefully we'll be even better next week."
