Spain's Carlos Barredo and Portugal's Rui Alberto Costa were fined for a punch-up at the end of stage six at the Tour de France.
Barredo, who races for Quick Step, and Caisse d'Epargne rider Costa came to blows after the finish line over a race incident.
Barredo ran towards Costa brandishing his front wheel and attacked him. After a flurry of punches were exchanged the two were separated by officials.
They were both handed fines of 400 Swiss Francs (£250) for 'insults, threats and incorrect behaviour'.
"I was told by a race steward that one of my riders had been involved in a fight but I don't know the circumstances," Caisse d'Epargne team director Yvon Ledanois told Reuters.
"I suppose they were involved in a race incident and that with the sun, spirits heated up. I want to talk it over calmly with Rui in the hotel," he added.

Children must play !
@kactyork I'm glad you brought that phrase up. Isn't that the phrase used to describe most "fights" in rugby? "Handbags at dawn"? So cyclist fight like rugby players.
Hand-bags from men wearing lycra. Enough said.
Let me just throw my 2 cents into the debate about fitness. I guess when we are discussing it on cycling page most of us will become a bit biased. Cyclists are probably amongst the most fit but most likely not the fittest. What about the marathon runner, swimmer or triathlete (although he does cycle)? But if I had to chose I would probably go with the cross country skier. When you look at VO2 max ratings they are normally at the top of the charts. And their sport develops more muscle groups than most others; aerobic and anaerobic fitness
i am a cyclist and i drive a car and pay insurance and tax , so why dont you ignorant little **** stupid death have a go at all the scum on the roads who refuse to pay tax and insurance , bet your,e one them you arrogant little piece of **** ? b.taylor.
Stupid death you boring little english man, why don't you go and mow the lawn and calm down. You represent everything that is wrong with the English race, narrow minded and ignorant.
It's bunch of people using the roads who pay no insurance or road tax. Cyclists deserve the contempt of all who PAY to use the roads. Once a year we have the London/Brighton cycle ride and not even ambulances can get across the city when needed.
This is just another group of egocentric, testosterone, (and if anything like past years is true) steroid pumped morons clogging up the roads. You want a cycle endurance race? Fine, use the Nurbergring in Germany. It is hilly, it can be raining on one side of he circuit and baking hot sun on the other. Let them cycle around that for five hours a day. It would prove the same point without involving those of us who see it as a pain in the @#$%.
For one thing it makes it clear why cyclist wear helmets.
i respect all sportsmen at the top of their game, they have all worked to get there and deserve acknowledgement for doing so, however i dont respect any sportsman who brings their sport in to disrepute, they should act professional as well as perform professionally.
Children, children! Do we have to disagree with everything!?
Mike, I know you're a troll and everything but the fact that you're implying these two cyclists are gay is saying something huge about yourself.
fittest men on earth my ar$e. They are nothing but gay wimps.
No! - roid rage in cycling?!? Better test them.
You cant say "cyclists are the fittest men in sport" due to the fact that if they done any other sport, say rugby or football or what the like they wouldnt last the pace. Different sports require different TYPES of fitness.
Anabelle, I've finished wet 200km training rides with the skin missing off my backside and winter rides with my hands so cold I was praying I wouldn't catch a traffic light on the run back into London because I was no longer able to brake. I've halfslept in bus shelters and church porches on 24 hour rides, and fallen asleep on my bike on the Paris Brest Paris. I've been take off by dogs, motorists and oil spills and broken pretty much everything on the left side of my body over the past 20 years. And I've been to the funerals of friends who weren't so lucky. I've done elbows and swearwords in grupettos, and gone back to help clubmates who were suffering. I've turned out to marshall, organised races, sat in church halls listening to calendar setting meets, helped as many newcomers to the sport as I can and watched one promising youngster blossom into a Great Champion. And I've done, and will continue to do all this because I love a sport you think I know nothing about....hmmm.
Argument about World Cup soccer. Spain kicked Portugal's a$$!
It is evident those who question the fitness of the riders have never riden ONE OF THOSE PASSES, let alone two or three back to back at speeds they could not achieve on the flat and again the next day.
Idiotic comments come from those who if they have to walk more than 50 yards use their car
Some of you people on here are stupid. You're saying that cyclists aren't hard or fit etc and that they're poofs. When you've gone out and cycled for 5 hours a day for 3 weeks, excluding all the training needed to be able to do it, maybe you can critisise them. Until then, keep your mouths shut :)
Comment 17. Actually cyclists ARE the fittest athletes and THAT is a fact. The heart is a muscle and when it gets used more, it gets bigger (like any other muscle) and it's a fact that cyclists have the biggest hearts out of any other sports person. I've no doubt martial arts incorporates full body muscle conditioning & strength, but when it comes to pure fitness cyclists have it.
Another stupid male sport hogging tv time like UK "football". Hahahahaha! Too much testosterone.
