Alan Knill felt Bury's spirit proved the difference as they kicked off the new League Two campaign with a 1-0 home win against Brentford.A superbly-taken goal by striker Andy Bishop in the 42nd minute was enough to give The Shakers a deserved victory at Gigg Lane.
"Brentford started really brightly and we could have been 2-0 down after the first 15 minutes," said Knill. "But they didn't take their chances and after that I thought we were pretty good.
"I've got to say I'm delighted because everybody played their part and the team spirit was fantastic. It's about who wants to win it most and we did.
"Even though they had a bit of possession, they didn't do too much to us and it got predictable.
"We stayed strong and I think it was a fair result. We could have won by more but we'll take 1-0."
