McCall calls for ruthless streak

Sun 10 Aug, 03:30 PM

Stuart McCall was delighted to see Bradford get off to a winning start but admitted it should have been easier as they beat Notts County 2-1.Two goals by last season's leading scorer Peter Thorne gave Bradford what appeared to be a comfortable lead with less than half an hour to play, but Notts pulled a goal back after 72 minutes and gave the home side some anxious moments in the closing stages.

McCall, whose side are among favourites to win promotion from League Two said: "Fair play to Notts County, they did well in the second half and came at us. We dropped back too deep and gave them too much of the ball. They deserved their goal, but we defended well to make sure they didn't score another.

"All in all, I have got to be satisfied with three points and although I'm not going to criticise the referee there was a push on Barry Conlon and it was a blatant penalty."

He added: "Confidence is high in the team, but we are not getting carried away - it is just good for everyone for a positive start at home."
