Moore rues poor Rovers defending

Sun 10 Aug, 05:30 PM

Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore highlighted his side's poor defending after Rovers got their season underway with a 3-1 defeat at Swindon.First-half goals from Swindon strikers Billy Paynter and Simon Cox and a third from midfielder Jon-Paul McGovern comfortably saw off Tranmere.

Rovers did grab a late consolation through Bas Savage but it was Swindon's afternoon as they dominated from start to finish.

Moore said: "It is frustrating when you can consider how well pre-season went for us and that just went out of the window.

"We have got to defend better than that and I feel sorry for our goalkeeper (John Achterberg). How many times did we give the ball away? How many bad passes did we give to our keeper to put him under pressure?

"We have got to make ourselves hard to beat. There are no positives to come out of a 3-1 defeat like that."
