David Moyes is concerned by his failure to significantly add to his Everton squad ahead of the 2009/10 campaign.
The Everton manager, who has rejected bids for Joleon Lescott and Louis Saha this summer, knows he is in a race against time to bring in new players ahead of the club's Europa League play-off tie against Czech side Sigma Olomouc later this month.
Moyes said: "We are not ready as far as the squad goes, we want more players in."
He added: "We let a few go in the summer - Andy van der Meyde, Lars Jacobson, Nuno Valente - and we have not replaced any of those players yet.
"If we want a run in Europe we need more players quickly. The search goes on, it has never stopped all summer and I am feeling a bit demented with it all now.
"Apart from a couple of clubs, the transfer activity around the country has been limited. But for us, to have finished fifth and reached a cup final, to improve on that costs a lot of money.
"But we don't have that money. So trying to find players who are cheap, don't want much wages and will come here to improve us, well, it is not easy."
So far, Moyes has only brought in Brazilian striker Jo on loan from Manchester City and a clutch of untried youngsters who will be in the reserve squad, while Philippe Senderos' proposed move to Goodison Park from Arsenal remains an ongoing process.
"We have a good team but what we do not have is back-up, and that is what we are trying to get," said Moyes. "The bid for Senderos has been with Arsenal for a while now, and maybe it is getting closer."

Moyes is an a**hole, why would anyone want to play for a club with him as manager?
Mr Moyes has again stated the obvious. We did have £10 million which we bid on Stephane M'Bia. Where has it gone? Put that towards Joe Ledley and Rasmus Elm for the minute and hopefully qualify for Europa League and gain a couple more million. But why did we let Jakobson go? We need bodies so we release our No.2 right back! Moyes said we have tried to sign players. I'd like to know who. He is a miracle worker and I'll always have faith in him BUT....why can't we attract players and investment?
Hi shoo
MMMmmmm nice comments mate and I do credit Moyes for the signings he made such as: Arteta, Pinear, Jags, Lescott, Saha, Baines, Cahill ........... All bargains in todays terms ...... But 15 million on Fellani, who is a good player but is that where Everton need to be ........
What worries me is that so far we have NONE of the above and the season starts very soon, we have signed kids and lost out to the likes of Spurs to the sort of players I have listed above Kyle Naughton from Sheffield Wednesday being the example.
If we want to survice then we have to strengthen the squad and Moyes understands that. Trust me i live in Abu Dhabi and I don't want to be a Man City I like my club the way it is talented youngsters, a core of young internationals and some seasoned players, the majority being British. But if we want to get into the top 4 we have to invest, just like any other business otherwise the competition will overtake and we will end up down the bottom ..........
we need to go in for players like Brunt (wba) and knighton from Sheff utd ( too late again) And rasmus Elm these players wont come to us because we portray ourselves as a small club.We must have money but dont anyone to push deals through. Blue Pete Northumberland

Gazza, and do you think the players they have play for free? What Everton does NOT do is spend money they don't have. As he clearly states, the trouble is getting players to come to Everton that are of the caliber to improve the squad past 5th place. If you need a translator: top 4 club quality, without paying top 4 club transfer fees and wages. They don't have the cash that ManU, Liverpool, Chelsea, or Arsenal have, and that who they are competing with. Credit Moyes for doing so much with mid-table level finances.
Someone in the back office isn't doing there job. Look at the Senderos deal. When was it annouced by Kenwright that we were speaking to Arsenal and still nothing has happened. It's a joke. It's not Moyes fault, he just tells Kenwright who he wants but some bank manager must be overseeing each deal trying to squeeze the budget. I'm all for being careful, but at the cost of our success? You need to build on last year and all we've done is deplete the squad!
where he has found the other....Cahill, Jags, Lescott
AAAArrrgggggg Moyes please stop stating the obvious and do something, how can we not have money when:
1) We finish 5th AGAIN (Prize money)
2) We reach the FA Cup Final (TV Money)
3) Sky & Pay per view deals for new season
4) Gate receipts for the new season
There must be at least the 15 million we spent last year on Fellani as a Minimum surely and that shoudl be invested in 2 or 3 players, even if they are older players.
We act too slow and are not decisive and allow other clubs (Spurs, Villa etc) to jump ahead of us.
We need to qualify for Europa League to then compete we need a bigger squad. The additional games with TV rights will be at least 5 million in the new format.
Act quickly the season starts next week and once again we leave it to the last day which is not good, we need fresh faces and that doesn't mean ther likes of Arteta, Yakubu and Jags coming back from injuries.
No new signings we will burn out again and pick up injuries ...........
Just my thoughts
Are you running a charity or profit oriented organization?. "So trying to find players who are cheap, don't want much wages and will come here to improve us. Where will you find this type of players?
