Genoa will not sign Edgar Davids, according to club president Enrico Preziosi.

The veteran former Juventus midfielder is a free agent after being released by Ajax, allowing him to move outside the transfer window.

But Preziosi stated his confidence in the current squad, adding that boss Gian Piero Gasperini did not ask for any more players.

"The team will remain as it is," Preziosi stated.

"I was interested in Davids, but Gasperini was not sure about his level of fitness."

The club were also linked with former Real Madrid and Everton man Thomas Gravesen after the Danish midfielder cancelled his contract with Celtic.

Ambitious Genoa acquired Diego Milito, Andrea Gasbarroni, Rafaele Palladino, Ruben Olivera, Matteo Ferrari and Anthony Vanden Borre this summer.
