World Cup qual. - Terry keen to forget Klasnic spat

England captain John Terry insists a spitting incident involving Croatia striker Ivan Klasnic should not detract from the joy of Fabio Capello's side reaching the 2010 World Cup finals.

Terry accused Bolton player Klasnic of spitting at him during the 5-1 win at Wembley that sealed a place in South Africa next summer. Klasnic, on loan at the Reebok Stadium from French club Nantes, had replaced Eduardo as a 73rd-minute substitute.

"It's not a nice situation. He is the first person who has ever spat at me. It's one of those things but let's not let it ruin a massive night for us," said Terry.

"We have achieved what we wanted in reaching the finals with two games to spare and it is a great feeling after the disappointment of losing to Croatia and not making the Euro 2008 finals."

He added: "It was a chance to give the fans something back. Now we aim to finish this campaign very strongly as well. The job is not done yet.

"We've got our foot in South Africa and we are there but the main thing is we keep improving.

"Let's not forget it has taken us a year or so to get to this level. We still want to progress and have a lot of improvements to make in this squad.

"This is where we want to be, competing at this level and at this standard."

Two-goal Frank Lampard said: "We think we put the record straight after what happened two years ago. This performance showed everything we are about.

"This is the first step, we have qualified now and there is still a long way to go. If we can keep improving when we get to the World Cup, then that will be fantastic."

Aaron Lennon, who impressed on his recall on the right flank, said: "It could not have gone much better. I have started the season well and just tried to carry on what I had been doing at Spurs."

    The English press and many English fans are truly­ arrogant Nincompoops people and many times are racists.­ I remember two years ago when England got creamed by a­ little country called Croatia and was ousted out of an­ important European competition the English federation­ had to make a quick and important move and a decision­ to hire the best football coach in the world and lift­ the Three Lions out of the snake pit. ­ Unfortunately for England and the fans this great coach­ was not an Englishman but a brilliant ITALIAN­ tactician. Of course upon the announcement the­ Federation was attacted, accused and ridiculed to be­ " insensitive towards the English nation. Thus,­ they hired a proven, legendary, pragmatic ITALIAN with­ an impeccable background and a CRRICULUM VITAE with a­ SUMMA MAGNA @#$% LAUDE. This Magnifico coach was FABIO­ CAPELLO. Now the first giant step has been made, they­ are on the way to South Africa. The English press now­ HAS BEEN SILENT AND I THINK A LITTLE EMBARRASED, and­ the English fans are SILENT AND EMBARRASED AS WELL. I­ just feel sorry for all of them..

  12. england absolutely deserved the points, fair and­ square. No argument there.
    The english media does its­ job, good or bad, but I care not what the media says.­ The game spoke for itself and they did brilliantly.­
    England has a great chance of winning if they keep the­ form, but when it matters we will see what they are­ made off. I do not read much into the results against­ teams like croatia, ukraine, kazakhistan, etc. this is­ not the english level, especially judging that half our­ our games have been kinda lucky in a way and not­ decisive.
    but if england can put this kind of­ performance against the big boys when it matters next­ year, surely the final is possible.
