World number two Roger Federer, who withdrew from this week's Stockholm Open, will be back on the ATP tour for next week's Madrid Masters.
"It's definitely great news to be able to count on the presence of Roger Federer for another year," said the director of the tournament Manolo Santana. "He is a great champion and one of the favourites for the title."
Federer won the Madrid Masters in 2006 and was a finalist in 2007 in the event, which begins on Saturday with qualification matches and ends on October 19.
Last week, the Swiss national announced his withdrawal from the Stockholm Open, saying he wanted to take a break from tennis but hoped to return before the end of the year.
"I feel fortunate to be healthy again, but I want to remain at the top of the game for many more years to come and go after the number one ranking again," he said in a statement to organisers of the Swedish event.
"In order to do that, I need to get a proper rest and get strong again so that I am 100 percent fit for the remainder of the year or next year," Federer said at the time.
"At this point, I am not sure when I will be ready to play again, but I hope to be back at some point before the end of the year."
Federer won his 13th Grand Slam crown and fifth consecutive US Open title last month, after losing this year's Wimbledon and French Open finals and his number one ranking to Spain's Rafael Nadal.

Glad he's playing Madrid. More interesting for tennis fans with Fed in the draw. Cheers
VAMOS, RAFA!!! VAMOOOS
zero, those of us with a fraction of common sense know full well that there's no way Roger will be no 1 at the end of the year. It's just the fanatics who can't do their maths!
However, with going out in the semis at the AO this year & the 1st round in Dubai, besides not doing brilliantly at either indian Wells or Miami, we can but hope that he pulls up again in the first few months of next year.
Oh please....he is 27,he is not yet a teenager!!!
i love so much his style, his game, but we need to recognize that All this ITS OVER,and if he will win the next year a grand slam this will be a very good result!! i do not believe in his power, its obvious that the world is changing and the sports too,we cant stop just on his game, and his winnings!!
he's back
c'monnnnnnnnnnn ROGER...YOU CAN BE AGAIN THE NO. 1....C'MONNNNNNNN
c'monnnnnnnn ROGER...you can be another the no. 1
Federer, What a perfect Gentleman! Perhaps last of the breed when looking at all other brats. One hopes that Roger plays jor many more years and provides great joy to the followers of the game.
I love Federer, but let's be realistic. Federer has 5930 points right now, and Nadal 7000. If he wins every tournament he's slated to play this year (Madrid, Basel, Paris, TMC) he'll wind up with 6605 points.
Nadal, and I'm assuming he's playing the same schedule as last year (I can't be bothered to check his website) is playing in Madrid, Paris, and TMC. He only has 675 points at stake from those 3 tournaments, which means he'll end the year with 6325 points minimum, and that's assuming he loses every match he plays, which is highly unlikely.
federer is the best
damn i miss an ATP Masters Series event. it'sbeen so long since one has taken place. Good to know Fed will participate.
COME ON ROGER YOU CAN DO IT BACK TO NUMBER ONE BY THE END OF THE YEAR .GO ROGER GO
ALISON MERRITT.
PS YOU ARE THE BEST ROGER.
Go for it Roger, get the number one ranking back. Nadal is beatable, Murray proved that, make it a clean sweep this year of the Grand slams and shut the critics up. The record will be equalled or beaten this year by Roger, all the very best.
Yep, Rog is back and rested! Can't wait to see him in action next week!
This is great news for men’s tennis, hopefully the rivalry at the top of the game will continue for many more years to come. Well done Roger.
Dr Vasos Pavlika
Federer doesnt need this tournament, he has allready won here once.. Isnt it better for him to give his best and try and win Paris Masters, something he hasent yet been able to do. Anyway, thats just what I think. He can do what ever he wants!!
