Cobblers battle back for draw

Bury let a two-goal slip as Northampton fought back for a 2-2 draw at Gigg Lane.

First-half goals by David Worrall and Ryan Lowe gave the Shakers a deserved half-time advantage.

But Courtney Herbert pulled one back in the 66th minute and substitute Adebayo Akinfenwa headed home with 16 minutes left to seal a point for the visitors.

Herbert went close early on for Northampton before the hosts took charge with Worrall and Mike Jones seeing fierce strikes tipped over by Chris Dunn.

The Cobblers keeper had to turn away a Brian Barry-Murphy free-kick too before Bury finally opened the scoring in the 29th minute.

Lowe found Worrall on the edge of the box and although his first effort was blocked, the in-form winger fired home left-footed at the second attempt.

Lowe then doubled Bury's lead just four minutes later after latching onto Ryan Cresswell's long ball and superbly lobbing Dunn.

Cresswell almost made it 3-0 just after the break, only for his goalbound header to be cleared off the line by Steve Guinan.

But Herbert gave Northampton hope as he burst through the Bury defence to slot past Wayne Brown.

And soon after Akinfenwa rose highest to meet Luke Guttridge's cross and head in off a post.
