Faasel (5-2) won the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Graduation Chase under a finely-judged ride from Nicky Richards' stable jockey Davy Condon at Carlisle.
The favourite Tot O'Whiskey led three out and was still at the head of affairs at the final fence but while he ran right to the line, Condon produced Faasel to collar him in the last 50 yards and then hold on by a head as Tot O'Whiskey rallied.
Richards said: "Davy gave him a wonderful ride.
"We may run Faasel in a similar race or we could go for a handicap or even have a look at the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot, he is a very good hurdler."
Condon was suspended for one day (November 24) for using his whip with excessive frequency and not allowing Faasel time to respond.
