West Brom manager Tony Mowbray has denied he has made an approach for Lens striker Aruna Dindane.

Reports suggested the Ivorian has agreed a January loan move to The Hawthorns, with a view to a permanent deal in the future.

The Baggies are understood to be looking for extra firepower in the battle to avoid relegation, but Mowbray has rubbished the rumours that Dindane is set to head to England.

"I'm not sure where this came from," Mowbray told the Birmingham Mail. "I've heard about four or five other names we're supposed to be linked with.

"Aruna Dindane has been out for eight months with a cruciate ligament injury and hasn't kicked a ball.

"We talk about lots of players and his name would have been mentioned but, categorically, there has been no contact between the football clubs."

However, the Baggies boss has hinted that he could consider an approach for the Ivory Coast international in the future.

"Is it right that we would take him on loan - well let's see what he does over the next few months," added Mowbray

"We are at a stage where we're trying to identify players. No deals have been done for any player. He's a long shot - wild card."
