Butcher defiant over future

Mon 10 Dec, 11:45 AM

Under-fire Brentford boss Terry Butcher believes he will be given time to turn the Bees' season around after the 1-0 defeat at home to Grimsby. The former England captain has seen his side lose six of their last seven games in all competitions to slip to within four points of the League Two relegation zone but is confident that he can repair their faltering season.

He said: "I'm very confident that I'll be given more time and there is a lot to work with here.

"The genuine fans who were applauding the players off the pitch can see what is going on. Within 10 minutes of the final whistle on Saturday I'd had several fans come up to me and say positive things.

"They want to see effort and commitment and that is what they are getting. We are just lacking quality and a bit of luck.

"It is a tough time for everybody but I've faced adversity in my career before and come through the other side and I will continue to do that."
