Collins steps up technology call

Mon 10 Dec, 06:45 PM

Hobs boss John Collins believes goalline cameras would enhance football after the controversy over Clayton Donaldson's strike at Inverness. The former York striker held off two defenders before flicking the ball towards goal, where it came down off the crossbar and bounced by the goalline.

Donaldson pleaded with referee Kenny Clark to award a goal after the ball appeared to cross the line, but the match officials were unconvinced and Hibernian's appeals were rejected.

Inverness were 1-0 up at the time in Saturday's Scottish Premier League game, and went on to win 2-0.

A camera on the line would have taken any guesswork out of the decision on Donaldson's strike, and Collins believes the game would benefit from allowing such big decisions being taken out of the referee's hands.

He told the Edinburgh Evening News: "I've always been in favour of technology, without a doubt.

"Goals change matches and had the scoreline gone 1-1 it would have been an entirely different game as the flow of the game, the momentum would have been altered.

"We have cameras in tennis and cricket and goal-line cameras should be straightforward, it's a bit of technology we should have and it shouldn't be too much of a problem."
