Hat-trick hero Stern John is hoping Southampton's 4-0 thumping of Hull on Saturday will kickstart the club's promotion bid.The Trinidad & Tobago striker bagged a 20-minute treble after the break to add to Bradley Wright-Phillips' opener as Saints brushed aside the Tigers in fine style.

"My last hat-trick was for Birmingham in 2002 so it's been a long time coming," he said.

"We really needed a victory to put us back in the top 10 and hopefully it will kick-start our season.

"We need to push on into that top six, and then in January we can make another run for promotion."
