Britain took three of the 18 gold medals on offer at the second round of the track World Cup in Beijing.

World and Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins showed he will again be the man to beat in 2008 when he took the individual pursuit honours.

Racing on the track which will be used for next year's Olympics, Wiggins held off the challenge of Ukraine's Volodmyr Dydudya, although the Londoner's time of four minutes, 25.316 seconds was some way off the standard he set at the Athens Games in 2004.

Riding without Wiggins, the British team pursuit quartet of Ed Clancy, Steve Cummings, Geraint Thomas and Paul Manning posted a time of 4.02.517 to beat New Zealand in the final.

Further success for Britain came in the men's keirin as world 1km champion Chris Hoy took gold from Frenchman Arnaud Tournant.

But Hoy, Craig MacLean and Jason Queally - the line-up who won silver at the Sydney Olympics - had to settle for bronze in the team sprint.

And Wiggins and T-Mobile sprinter Mark Cavendish only managed silver in the madison behind the French who along with the Dutch won two of the men's races.

On the women's side High Wycombe's Rebecca Romero won silver in the women's pursuit behind Australia's Katie Mactier while Victoria Pendleton was beaten into second place by Natalia Tsylinkskaya of Belarus in the sprint.
