Gannon hopes for quick response

Wed 10 Dec, 01:45 PM

Stockport boss Jim Gannon has urged his side to bounce back immediately after they were dumped out of the FA Cup by Gillingham.Stephen Gleeson opened the scoring for County with a neat low shot but a clinical first-half double from Gills striker Andy Barcham gave the League Two visitors a 2-1 victory.

Gillingham's reward is a plum home tie against Aston Villa in the third round while Stockport must focus on promotion, with a trip to Yeovil next up on Saturday.

Gannon said: "Gillingham played with great desire, they were ruthless in exploiting our weaknesses, and there were quite a few of those in this game.

"We've got to pick ourselves up now, though, and make ourselves much better players.

"I'm disappointed for some of our younger players, but they'll get their opportunities to play some of the bigger sides soon enough."
