Jones eyes Bothroyd boost

Wed 10 Dec, 04:45 PM

Cardiff boss Dave Jones is keeping his fingers crossed that Jay Bothroyd's latest injury setback will not keep him sidelined for the long-term.The in-form striker damaged knee ligaments during Tuesday night's 2-2 draw at Burnley and had to be substituted in the 73rd minute.

Bothroyd only recently returned to action following a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury and was even doubtful for the clash at Turf Moor with a similar problem.

Jones said in the South Wales Echo: "Jay tweaked his knee just after half-time and it could be medial ligament damage. Hopefully it won't be too serious when the injury is assessed."

Leading scorer Ross McCormack has already been ruled out for three weeks after suffering a hamstring tear, again, not long after recently returning to action.

With the club's injury problems in attack, it is not surprising Jones has stated his intention to explore the possibility of extending Michael Chopra's loan deal as soon as Sunderland appoint a new manager.
