Premier League - Villas-Boas demands to be part of celebrations

Sat, 10 Dec 10:42:00 2011

Andre Villas-Boas has ordered Chelsea's players to include him in their goal celebrations, according to a report in Saturday's papers.

Weekend Warm-up

A Chelsea spokesman confirmed to The Sun that the Blues boss cooked up the scheme to make it look as if everything is rosy between Chelsea's players and staff at Stamford Bridge.

"The manager has asked the players to look across and recognise him and his staff on the bench after a goal," the spokesman told the paper.

"He believes that by celebrating together it shows we are all in it together.

That's the players, the manager, the subs, the staff, the medical people -- everyone working and celebrating together."

It's a busy day for Andre Villas-Boas in Saturday's newspaper, with the Portuguese boss also hitting the headlines after blowing a gasket in the latest round of his ongoing war of words with Sky pundit Gary Neville.

The former Manchester United defender accused Villas-Boas of letting defender David Luiz run around as if he was being controlled by a 10-year-old on his Playstation.

"You cannot approach a top Brazil central defender saying he's commanded by a kid with a PlayStation. That's ridiculous," said the Chelsea boss.

"He plays for the team with most (world) titles, so be careful with what you're saying."

Neville also drew Villas-Boas's ire for saying that he wouldn't like to be in Chelsea's dressing room ahead of their Tuesday night Champions League match.

" What does he know about the Chelsea dressing room? What does Gary Neville know about our dressing room?" Villas-Boas said.

"How can you imagine what is going on in the Chelsea dressing room? How can you know?

"Have you been here? Do you know where Cobham is? You don't even know how to get here!

"You can't speculate and invent on things that are going on, based on assumptions or informants or speculation. Some people can have more or less an idea. But not him. He cannot know.

"I'm normally indifferent, not watching on the telly to see what these people say.

"But I was watching the television at that moment, and I was gobsmacked."

  5. chelsea were bad? Oh never knew winning 3-0 was bad and that losing 2-1 was good. Remember when Arsenal lost 8-2 and Tottenham lost and the headlines were Manchester- 2 London- 0. Didn' see that on Thursday. CFC will win and not lose 6-1 like Manure!

  9. Only at chelsea this could happen. It's not surprising at all, they hand out platic flags to the fans to enourage support, I'm surprised they don't also give out the words to their songs like hymn sheets. The fans copy another teams banner leaving part of their rival clubs badge on it, I mean, they are the most amusing team in the country. And I love em for that.

  11. I think it's a good idea. Players should be made to understand how everyone in the club pulls together to get them to the position they are in.
Perhaps not the greatest example, but listen to F1 drivers on their radio after a win, and they invariably thank the whole team for making their win possible.
It brings their own skills down to earth a bit
