The 33-year-old started his career at the northern French outfit 15 years ago but has turned down an offer to return there, preferring instead to see out his playing days with Wigan.

"I've discussed it with my wife," he told la Viox du Nord. "And we became aware that there was no reason to turn our lives upside down.

"We are happy here and our children are happy in England.

"I'm flattered by interest of Lille, who have become a big club over the past few years, but I prefer to say no to them."

Sibierski, who has also been linked with a move to Lens, has made 17 appearances for Wigan so far this season, scoring three times.

Lille are struggling to find form this season and currently occupy fourth last place in Ligue 1, just a point away from the relegation zone.
