Premier League - Benitez: Ferguson is 'scared'

Eurosport - Sun, 11 Jan 16:57:00 2009

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has attacked Alex Ferguson again - saying the Manchester United boss is "scared" of Liverpool's title challenge.

The Spaniard on Friday accused Ferguson of being able to get away with attacking referees.

A day after his table-topping Liverpool side stuttered with a 0-0 draw at Stoke and ahead of the clash between United and Chelsea, Benitez said many other people feel the same way.

"For 20 years nobody could say these things, but maybe a lot of people are thinking the same as me. I do not regret saying it," Benitez said.

"I can guarantee a lot of people have sent a lot of messages, not to me but to our staff and a lot of people in Liverpool. It is one person saying what everyone wants to say.

"But I was not thinking about what people think, I was thinking about my club and Mister Ferguson's comments on Liverpool this season. You can understand why.

"I have known him for five years now and people are saying he is playing mind games. I think it is too early (for that).

"He is talking too much about Liverpool. He has to think about his own team, the problems they have and all the things they are doing."

Asked if he thought Ferguson was nervous, Benitez responded: "Clearly", before adding: "Maybe he is a little bit scared."

A draw at Old Trafford on Sunday would suit Benitez, who will watch the match from the comfort of his armchair after his team went four points clear of Chelsea.

United are fourth, eight points in arrears of Liverpool but with three games in hand.

"I cannot change the game so I will stay at home, watch it on television and enjoy it," he said. "It is clear both cannot win. We will see what happens. A draw could be a perfect result."

Has fergie never made claims people laughed at?.
I seem to remember a few.
And since when does 1 game change anything.
If you look at the table you'll see liverpool on top.
How many games did man u lose last season and still take the title.
Our record is still the best in the league.
    Thats why WE ARE top.

  5. Like liverpool against stoke, united struggle against the teams lower down the table.
Points are more valuble than games in hand.
Nothings over till Mrs rooney opens her gob,and decides to murder a few 70's classics
0-0 would have been the best result for us.
BUT a chelsea loss will do nicely .
    Cheers big ears.

  7. Well..... the result has proved it that Rafa is still learning the game of winning the EPL. He accused SAF and ManUtd and his team dropped points and ManUtd gain the full 3 points. SAF just replied now that perhaps Rafa was just angry man. Angry about what? that ManUtd are still going to win the EPL? Hmmmmm... I think so. So 'boy' Rafa, who is now scare?

  9. Sir Alex Ferguson can say what he wants coz he has earned the right to do so. When Rafa becomes "Sir" Rafa, then he might be given some privileges as well :-)

  10. Benitez is feeling the pressure. Sad thing is that he i criticising Ferguson for saying the same things that Benitez was saying last season when he blamed the fixture pile up for yet another liverpool failure and asserted that the FA was against them. Grow up Rafa and keep you're big mouth shut.

  11. Fergie scared? Mwahahahahaha. That's funny. Now that United have crushed Chelski 3-0 it's Rafa who'll be the one with shivers running down his spine. He'll also feel United's hot breath down his neck if United win against Wigan on Wednesday and close the gap on Liverpool to 2 points.

  14. That outburst will probably cost Liverpool the League, remember Keegan's outbursts, Fergie is top class when it comes to the mind games! Make an interesting end to the season but Rafa has now put more pressure on his team to deliver, if he fails he will become a laughing stock and I think Man U having destryed Chelsea today will build momentum and succeed in retaining the league.

  20. I FEEL SORY 4 LIVERPOOL FANS COS NOT IN THIS LIFE TIME OR THE NEXT WILL U GUYS SEE THE PREMIER LEAGUE......SORRRRRYYYYY...
If mr rafa had spent more time on his team tactics rather than try rub shoulders with elder gods they probably would have got their 3 points against stoke(The $%&! couldnt even get past stoke)..
hopefully mr rafa saw man united thrash chelsea 3-0 and also see how many decisions went against us...
the morale of the story mr rafa is instead of engaging in mind games with older gods concentrate on ur team and their tactics...

PEACE OUT....MAN UNITED 4 LIFE BABBBY!!!
