Premier League - Suarez, Evra could meet parliamentary inquiry

Liverpool star Luis Suarez, manager Kenny Dalglish and Manchester United's Patrice Evra could all be called to appear at a new parliamentary inquiry into racism in football, according to a report in the Daily Telegraph.
The Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee has called the inquiry in the wake of recent high profile incidents concerning football and race, most notably the incident that led to Suarez being banned for eight matches and the police charge being faced by England and Chelsea captain John Terry.
The inquiry was granted after a request from committee member Steve Rotheram who is the MP for Liverpool Walton, a constituency that includes Anfield.
According to the Telegraph: "The committee will seek evidence from as many figures as possible across the game.
"It is understood that Suarez and Evra, the players at the heart of the acrimonious dispute between Liverpool and the authorities, will be among those the committee will seek to hear from."
The paper added: "Parliamentary committees have powers to compel witnesses to appear, and those invited are generally expected to attend."
The inquiry will begin on March 6 and former Liverpool great John Barnes is also likely to appear.
Liverpool boss Dalglish may also be asked to appear, and on Tuesday he defended his unequivocal support of Suarez throughout the scandal.
"Obviously there was a big issue with Luis. The players showed support for Luis which was fantastic, but then some people interpreted that wrongly as the players saying they're not interested in the fight against racism," he told the club's website.
"That is totally and utterly rubbish. If we can help to eradicate racism or discrimination from any part of the society, with the help of anybody at Liverpool Football Club, then that help will be forthcoming. We don't want racism anywhere near football and certainly not anywhere near this football club."
In explaining why he requested the inquiry Rotheram said: "I continue to support the ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ initiative and believe, given the nature of recent events, that it would be appropriate for this issue to be looked at by Parliamentarians from all Parties and from different football/sporting and non-sporting allegiances.
“Sport should be rightly proud that in many ways it has led the field in tackling social issues such as racism, homophobia and sectarianism and it will be interesting to see what conclusions the Select Committee draw.”

yes if they are going to start calling people to interview, dianne abbott should be first, also to swear at someone should not be considered twice as bad as kicking someone in the head, its time for some commonsense to come back into society. these rabid idiots who jump on the race bandwagon are actually building up long term problems, as a child in britain i was told that sticks and stones may break my bones but names can never hurt me,by my mother was she a racist? i think not!!
foolish minds all come together to make foolish comments
is john terry attending? or are they going to call a separate one for him? don't see why there are dragging this out further is pointless.
I agree with comments such as Dean P. How can they have an enquiry into this when Dianne Abbott gets off scot free, as do the asians that beat the white girl up whilst shouting racists abuse. WRITE TO YOUR MP NOW AND DEMAND AN ANSWER - I AM!
They should kick Suarez out of football because he'll do it again
Suares everytime he had a problem remember on 2010 playing with Ghana he caused a chaos he never regrets
Dean P it's because they were White and English so it does not matter. The old soldiers must be turning in their graves
The area set out for witnesses will be a little empty, considering there wasn't any.
Wonder what Parliment will make of such a harsh punishment being given out based on one persons word against anothers. It wouldn't stand up in court and doubt it will in parliment either.
Why dont they just concentrate on why bankers are getting paid huge bonuses for wasting our money then asking for more money then wasting it again meanwhile living in luxury and the best part is they hoard our money and wont give loans or mortgages out im 30 and can see me only be able to rent for the rest of my life! back to the topic is this just not a police matter??
May Be Parliment should look into a racist MP before going after a Player from another country. Justice is investigating Diane Abbott or Suarez should just say sorry like Diane Abbott ad we sold just forget it
these trolls and clones spoil yahoo sport pages for real. yahoo must do something about it and take action against the one particular serial troll that clones people IDs left right and centre. they must take him to court we all know who he is and how many IDs he has got
He will nevra tell the truth, But then again maybe under oath he will have too. GOOD move by liverpool to get this together, The fa are twitching as well. It will be like red nose day in court. with saf playing rudolph.
This should have been done years ago when that klanchester racist Peter Schmeichel called Ian Wright a black *******. Can't be hypocritical of Suarez unless your klanchester united feral rat. lol
@ 158 You cloned another account you klanchester feral rat. lol
You sound more like Victor Meldew than I do. LOL
To me and most sensible people for a comment to be racist it has to have an element of malice - otherwise it's just ignorance, stupidity or a simple mistake. But the law doesn't require this feature. A perfectly friendly comment can be deemed as racist with no malicious intent whatsoever. We are doomed as a nation while this continues.
@ Theydothoughdonttheythough. Stick to turd polishing. lol
Victor Meldews clone sucks cream of cheesy bell ends. lol
How about the Govt looking into the case of those Somali scumbags (basically all Somalis) who beat that girl up calling her "white trash" and Diane Abbott being the usual racist that shes been all these years and getting away with it. Don't get me wrong, what Suarez said is totally out of order, but racist rules should be applied to ALL, not just non-whites
@ 155 I am a united fan, or should I say was a united fan. But united fans are so far up their own backsides I've got sick of the lot of them. The club is in a dire mess and fergs is slowly takeing the bricks home with him ready for when he's retiring, but hes screwing the foundations of the club. United need a massive shock for everyone to wake up and see whats going on. No Champions league, no Carling cup, the league is going away from us and Liverpool in the FA cup in a few weeks. Lose that and we'll have nothing this season. City can out spend us as well as Chelski, Arsenal and Liverpool have money an Spurs have a better squad. We'll have no cash, and no class come the summer.
VICTOR MELDREW
