The former Newcastle and Manchester United striker joined the Clarets on loan from Sunderland in January, and will stay at Turf Moor until the summer.

He told the Daily Star he may then decide to call time on his playing career.

"I really want to try and finish on a high.

"When I get to the end of the season I'll make my mind up whether I want to play on."

The 36-year-old also admitted he knew little about his new club before signing.

"I had never played at Burnley before and I didn't even know where it was," he said.

"But I spoke to [Burnley manager] Owen Coyle and his enthusiasm for wanting to play football and wanting me to come and enjoy myself was enough."

Cole scored his first goal for the club in the 1-1 draw at home to Colchester on Sunday.
