Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has played down reports of an approach from Portsmouth to take up the vacant manager's position at the club.
The Swedish coach - now manager of the Mexico national side - stopped short of fully ruling himself out of the running to replace Tony Adams at Fratton Park, however.
Eriksson said ahead of Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against USA in Columbus, Ohio: "I always said I have contract until 2010, after the World Cup.
"In football, you never know what will happen but I have a contract and I want to win tomorrow. I have always said that Mexico will be in South Africa."
The former Manchester City manager has come under pressure following two defeats for his side in their last three matches, leading to speculation that he may seek a return to the Premier League with either Portsmouth or Chelsea.
Eriksson had been courted by the West London club - who sacked head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari on Monday - in 2001 while he was in charge of England, but he denied he had been in contact with Blues owner Roman Abramovich.
"I know he has my number and I certainly haven't spoken with him," Eriksson said.
Russia national team coach Guus Hiddink is set to be offered the role at Stamford Bridge on a short-term basis until the end of the season.
Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant has also been linked with a return to the Hampshire club, where he previously worked as director of football.

FYI, Eriksson achieved the following as England manager:-
1. Reached the quarter final in three consecutive tournaments (WC 2002, Euro 2004, WC 2006). No other European country achieved this during this period, and on an international level only Brazil.
2. Took England from 17th place (Jan 2001) to 5th place (July 2006) in the FIFA World rankings.
3. Achieved the highest point percentage in Major Tournament Matches of all time for an England manager
4. Is rated by the FA as England's 2nd most successful Manager after Sir Alf Ramsey.
How mighty the power of media!! Eriksson at his best is just a mediocre achiever. He should be very grateful for the media projection that has been lavished on him here.
james.jp - thatz exactly what tehy said when he moved to City, hehe
Sven working in Portsmouth...would have been the greatest mismatch in history. Has he ever been down there. Imagine him nipping out to find a glitzy bar for a few after match cocktails in Fratton. All there is, is row upon row of derelict shops and greasy spoons. Hilarious.
hehe; teh spam dating muppet show rolleth onwards. Eriksson on Portsmouth:
"1- how much ca$$h iz u payin and -2- how much severance if i getz teh chopzi?"
@ nige_bashton - as much as i agree with what you're saying, are you naive enough to think that it is actually a person posting all this spam, its a spam program the site uses that automatically posts the same messages on any sites that have comment pages like these, hoping that some idiot is foolish enough to visit the site!
Well said Nige!
STUPID DATING POSTED ON YAHOO SPORTS AND THEY CANT STOP IT
If you have (sorry had) no interest in watching the games at(-) present then why bother posting on a thread (nay, correction, every available thread) in which you have no interest. In fact, you post on so many threads it is doubtful that spend anytime whatsoever in the hot new place you have found. My advice, for what it is worth, stay in your hot new place and don’t bother wasting your time posting to people who have no interest in what you are saying.
