Premier League - Ferguson condemns 'disgrace' Suarez

Luis Suarez should never play for Liverpool again after refusing to shake Patrice Evra's hand, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed.

Ferguson was speaking after United's 2-1 Premier League win against Liverpool at Old Trafford, which was overshadowed by Suarez's pre-match snub of Evra.

The Uruguayan, who was banned for eight matches for racially abusing Evra last October, ignored the United captain's outstretched hand, moving straight to David De Gea.

Evra attempted to grab Suarez's arm, but the striker shrugged him off. Rio Ferdinand, next in line to De Gea, then refused to shake Suarez's hand.

Ferguson said: "I could not believe it, I just could not believe it.

"He's a disgrace to Liverpool Football Club, that certain player should not be allowed to play for Liverpool again.

"The history that club's got and he does that and in a situation like today could have caused a riot. I was really disappointed in that guy, it was terrible what he did."

"It created a tension, you've seen the referee didn't know what to do about it.

"It caught him off guard. It was a terrible start to the game, a terrible atmosphere it created."

There was further trouble at half-time, when several players were involved in a confrontation in the tunnel.

The final whistle prompted wild celebrations from Evra, who was led off the pitch by security staff.

Ferguson said of Evra's exuberant reaction: "He shouldn't have done that."

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish initially tried to play down the incident before getting involved in an angry exchange with Sky Sports reporter Geoff Shreeves

Dalglish said: "I never knew he never shook his hand. I don't know, I wasn't there, I never saw it. We haven't looked at the handshakes, but that's contrary to what I was told."

However, when Shreeves put it to Dalglish that the incident led to confrontations later in the match, the Liverpool manager lost his cool, saying: "I think you're very severe and I think you're bang out of order to blame Luis Suarez for anything that happened here today."

Dalglish then bizarrely suggested Sky was to blame, pointing out the relative lack of trouble at the clubs' recent FA Cup match which was screened by another broadcaster.

Suarez later tweeted: "We lost and we are sad because we have made a big effort... Disappointed because everything is not that it seems..."

Meanwhile, Ferdinand explained his decision not to shake Suarez's hand, saying: "I lost all respect for the guy. After seeing what he did, I decided I couldn't shake his hand."

  7. Really Ferguson? How about a Man U player who kicks a fan, or one who deliberatley injures an ex Man U player in a game, or one who misses a drug test, or how about the one who shags his brothers wife as well as other women. So it's alright for these players but not Suarez, he's a disgrace! Clean up your own backyard Ferguson before trying to do someone elses.

  14. genevieve it doesnt matter that suarez refused to shake evras hand!!! would you shake someones hand if they got you suspened from work for 8 days if you called someone who is black, black??? skin colour doesnt mean anything we are all human!!! what matters is that these people sometimes say he called me black when in fact they are black!!! they need to look in the mirror realise the colour of thier skin and accept that some people are gonna call them names!!! and that they should deal with it without crying about it!!! suarez had his reasons why to not shake evras hand and the way evra cried when suarez refused to shake his hand was unacceptable!!! evra should get a 8 match ban for crying like a little baby!!!after all it is the premier league not the cry baby league!!! take note evra stop crying like a spoilt child that aint getting its own way!!!

Ferguson is disgrace and should be sacked because Manure are out of Champions League with mediocre team like Basel, Benfica and Otelul Galati and the loss to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in the Carling Cup and lets not forget the loss to Liverpool in FA Cup.......come May the loss to Man City for EPL Title, so please get lost before you become an embarrasment to Manure!!!

  19. Why is it this is being made so dramatic he just didn't shake his hand, did anyone slate Wayne Bridge when he refused to shake John Terrys hand because he was shagging his missus? No they felt for him just because Suarez didn't shake Evra's hand we get all upset, Ferdinand saying he didn't shake his hand because he lost all respect for the guy so i take it he'll never shake hands or talk to JT again as he racially abused his brother don't think so some how, Evra should be banned or fined just like Gary Neville did for something similar he is a disgrace to United and should be made to make a public apology just like Suarez, one person who is not blameless in this is Ferguson he should have spoken to Evra at half time and as for Rooney he might aswell have been in the Ref's pants he was that close to him all the time keeping on in his ear,If it's in the rules that you don't shake hands then do him but as it's not then let's just give up trying to portray Liverpool in such a negative light as both clubs need to learn from this,Now let's all wait for Evra's apology.
