O'Neill suffers with Henry heroics

Sat, 11 Feb 18:32:00 2012

Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill was unhappy Thierry Henry had the opportunity to fire Arsenal to a last-gasp 2-1 victory.

But O'Neill saluted the veteran French striker's enduring potency after he stabbed home Andrey Arshavin's injury-time cross.

He said: "He's been a terrific player in his time here - and he hasn't done too badly second time around as well.

"But he shouldn't really be able to score from a couple of yards out when it is kind of lobbed into our penalty area."

James McClean fired the Black Cats ahead but substitute Aaron Ramsey levelled to set up a dramatic finish which saw Henry net the winner on his final Premier League game back on loan from the New York Red Bulls.

  1. You're right Joseph, I couldn't possibly be a barrister, far too much time on my hands. Ha ha, brilliant.

  2. Oh Bob, OK, I'll come clean and not bother with the gaff !! Had you hook line and sinker there !!

From Joseph, on Tue 14 Feb 20:58
  3. Joseph. How were you getting back into the game? You were 3-0 down and Carroll was clean through and about to make it 4 when Bramble hauled him down and was rightly sent off. We haven't seen so much of Beefy lately. Probably too busy with all the work he gets defending your players and racist scum fans!

From Bob R, on Tue 14 Feb 19:04
  4. Bob R, Another lie from you ,I didnt think you were lucky when you HAMMERED us 5-1, I just said we were unfortunate to have Titus sent off when we were just getting back into the game !!
How would you know what I thought ? and if I have an allotment (which I dont) ! Delusions you see !
Blobby, BAY 4-kin CITY 4kin ROLLERS !!! Id rather be a mag !! (sorry disregard that ). Stones, the Who
Led Zep, Free, Rory,Gallagher,Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple,Springsteen, etc all good 60s/70s rock !!
Blobby, 53, Beefy a barrister ? must have a lot of time on his hands as he posts during the day when he should either be in court or working not effing about on some silly sports forum !
Same goes for Educated Bob, and his ageist comments !!

  5. julian. You seem a decent bloke but calling me "bitchy" and claiming Joseph hit a nerve with his comment is a bit sad coming from a chap who wrote with reference to our many European campaigns .."Making up the numbers hardly constitutes European success you sad deluded Geordies". Now I congratulate you on being one of the few mackems who can spell Geordies but that has to be one of the most bitter and BITCHY comments ever made on these boards, with the possible exception of every comment Joseph makes after a Toon win. He even thought we were lucky when we humiliated you 5-1!
Joseph. I do apologise for incorrectly spelling leek. I know you allotment chaps get a bit touchy about the growing of large vege, marra or should that be marrow?

  6. Dr Hook,Wizard,Mudd,Slade and the mighty Lindisfarne--more of the seventies type of bands. Do you remember the Co. Durham band Prefab Sprout ? One of my faves . I remember you could hear Springsteen in Sunderland when he played Newcastle years ago. The best gig I never saw was U2 at the Gateshead stadium supporting The Police in '82 -but seen them 5 times since.

I reckon the best good - shyte band was Whitesnake. Painfully cheesy but great to listen to.
In a similar way Sunderloaned are the best good - shyte team, they play horrendous football but manage to stay in the top flight.

  8. Tony, even the shyte was good way back then, remember Smokie. I hardly know who's in the charts today, there are a few talented people around like Adele but they're far and few between, what happened, how did it get so bad mate!!!!

  9. Well chaps we are now on my favourite subject.
Queen, thin lizzy, foreigner, bad company, ELO it's all good lads but what about the mighty Aerosmith, Led Zep, Deep Purple, Van Halen, ACDC, Guns n Roses the list goes on.
My personal favourite artist of all time has to be Springsteen. He's playing over here this summer so unfortunately I'm gonna have to set foot in Sunderland for the 2nd time in 12 months. I'll have a good bath afterward.

  10. What about The Bay City Rollers, I can just see Joseph singing Shang a lang as he ran with his gang in his tartan pants and three star jumper ha ha ha
    B-A-Y, B-A-Y, B-A-Y, C-I-T-Y, With an R-O-double-L, E-R-S, Bay City Rollers are the best!

  11. Definitely The Cult's "She sells sanctuary" or Killing Joke's "Love like blood" to get the hairs on the back of the neck going!

From julian, on Tue 14 Feb 3:59
  12. Hold the line there, what about Queen and dare I go as far back as Bad Company, Free and Thin Lizzy, I can see us running out to 'the boys are back in town' in the derby game!!

From JONNY, on Tue 14 Feb 3:26
  13. Pray silence for the mighty ELO
Tony-80's was the best musical era going, probably not a day goes by when I don't listen to something from then. I leant more towards the alternative early 80's side of things but can you imagine a team running out to Foreigner's 'I wanna know what love is'-thats what I'm talking about.

From julian, on Tue 14 Feb 3:16
  14. Julian, you may be many many many things but you aint a coward. We know who's doing it and that's who those comments are for, you can ignore those ones.
Tony, you know, I had more than a feelin you would be in to good music!!

I don't know if you're taking the p.1ss but I actually do listen to REO Speedwagon.....and Toto, and Kansas, and Journey, and Boston.
If you ain't into melodic 70s/80s rock then you don't know what you're missing.

From Tony, on Tue 14 Feb 3:04
  17. julian, maybe Joseph is just a master wind up merchant and he's been having us all on for a couple of years but now someone has actually come along and spotted it ha ha ha!!!

I'm beginning to understand more and more all this thumbing down without reply, you can't argue with the truth and so hide it in the hope it will go away and not show you up for the horrible lttle yellow sp u, nk stains you most certainly are!!

  19. Well well well-the so-called Geordie big hitters on the ropes by Joseph.
Every time the 5-0 thrashing is brought up the schoolyard bullyboy tactics surface-Tony #47 you're sounding genuinely excited, I can just imagine the crumbs from your chocolate digestive raining down on the keyboard as REO Speedwagon plays in the background: Jonny, I know there is a profound ,multi-dimensional character there somewhere ,but like your psycological masterclass -I'm still waiting to see evidence.
Bob-Joseph hit a nerve with you #52 - definitely hit a nerve..also your reply had a distinct "bitchy" tone to it.

Why is it when Bob says he has a well paid job he's lying? Why is it Beefy can't possibly be a barrister? I was told on remembrance Sunday that I'm not ex forces, how disrespectful is that??
I think the problem is, some of you mackems don't come across decent, upstanding and hard working people too often!!!
