Pardew: Spurs were `irresistible'

Sat, 11 Feb 21:55:41 2012

Alan Pardew hailed Tottenham's "irresistible" quality but admitted his Newcastle side had an off-day as they were smashed 5-0 at White Hart Lane.

The Magpies held Spurs to a 2-2 draw at St James' Park earlier this season but barely threatened this time around, falling to their heaviest defeat of the season.

Louis Saha's brace and further strikes from Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Niko Kranjcar and Emmanuel Adebayor did the damage amid a background of almost constant adulation from the home crowd towards boss Harry Redknapp, who started the week in the dock but by Wednesday afternoon found himself in the clear and suddenly in pole position to take over as England head coach.

Pardew said: "Tottenham were irresistible. Some of the things they were doing, they were doing for fun, Adebayor and Saha were a real handful for us.

"They had an extra bounce in their step after what happened to their manager this week. They all wanted to show they wanted their manager to stay but we should have done better for the first two goals.

"What we showed here isn't a true reflection of us this season, though."

  1. Bob, with my quarter of a brain I worked out that's it's better to disagree with something someone says by actually giving my opinion and Julian with his quarter brain probably does the same. I NEVER thumb down regulars on here or the Sunderland boards. In fact, I gave Jonny his only thumbs up on the 'handshake' comment. Give credit where it's due.

  2. julian and Charlie. Seems strange that on a Toon page, all the Geordie comments are thumbed down and all the mackem ones thumbed up and here's me thinking you two had half a brain between you!
With their expensive solicitors I expect Bramble to get away with it, or get a mate to do the time like he did with his brother and the odious Cattermole and Bendtner to get a slapped wrist, even though they both have plenty of previous. Seems only your disgusting, racist "supporters" get what's coming to them.

From Bob R, on Tue 14 Feb 16:48
  3. Charlie, if I was Cats or Bent ner, I would't baggsy my chances. I've got a feeling Titus might walk though, he knows the routine and will play it to his advantage plus, he's spending a bomb on lawyers!!!

  4. Jonny, I have a social conscience, too, but I believe in innocent until proved guilty...I just hope it's not proved until after the derby game.

  5. Anyone see MOTD2 last night where Sessegnon won goal of the month with Craig Gardner runner-up? Wait a minute, am I on the right page?

  6. Charlie, I don't think our players should shake hands with your lot before kick off in the derby game. It would be grossly disrespectful to all women who have been raped and it's highly possible that there will be innocent victims of car crime in the crowd (from the Toon section of course) not to mention racial abuse on twitter.
Maybe we could shake hands after the game, 'if you still want to' ha ha ha your fans will be long gone by then anyway ha ha!!

Julian, 33, that's not true, I always give credit where it's due, it's just that you're not due any.
As for Keegan, you obviously don't know this but a lot of players he signed were sold on for a profit. A lot of money was spent but a lot came back in, Shearer making the difference but I would do that all again and so would you if there was a player out there of that quality who wanted to join you. But there's not!

  8. Cameron, okay it's time to lay the 'Arry thing to rest. You got your comeuppance so there's no need to bang on about it. By the way, do you agree with 'concerned citizen' Bob that Titus, Catts, and Bendtner should be locked up? Just curious.

    Charlie,
you say the 'liar' tag was a bit harsh; yet you are STILL banging the same untruth out.- that makes you a liar in my book.
    julian,
the '73 win was a fluke; simple as.
You got no chance this year; if you fluke Arsenal, you (hopefully) will get Spurs or Liverpool or Chelsea away next up. You lot will get zero credit from me; all we got for our 11 game unbeaten start was 'played nobody'; hang on, olunds just like your little run under the Messiah - only difference being that you lost to EVERY decent team you played..

  10. Bob-of course I would like to see Sunderland play in Europe and hopefully we will-I was simply replying to Camerons list of European appearances, saying it was hardly a roll of honour or glory and you've both bit like good 'uns . Jonny and Tony can't write a sentence about Sunderland without putting in 'cheat, dive or loan' because they'd rather chew their fingers off than give credit.
Oh,and by the way, don't forget how much you spent under those heady Keegan days of the 90's and you still came 2nd in a 2 horse race.

No, Charlie, I just like to see justice done. Your heroes damaged peoples' cars and deserve to be punished. How is that seeking an unfair advantage?
julian. You made sense a couple of times when you first appeared, seems you're now going down the usual mackem path of jealous rants. You would love to see your team playing in Europe and you know it. As for the FA cup, it cannot be denied that teams do play under-strength sides these days can it?

From Bob R, on Tue 14 Feb 0:02
  12. Cameron-I was in touch with several Arsenal fans during and after the match and they were mighty relieved to win and I'll quote one " about time we had a bit luck" .Trust me Cameron, they are taking it and Sunderland very seriously.
The FA cup seems to be as relevent now as it ever was-with the 1973 final being the most talked about game in history. How dare you try and put it down just because your beloved mags were'nt up to a trip to Brighton.

  13. Bob, wishing people in prison to try and gain an unfair advantage over your opponents? You're starting to sound like Cameron!

Charlie. Didn't you claim to have had a great season last year despite being hit for 5 at SJP? We'll have our full strength midfield back for the derby, whereas, if justice is done, your centre half, CAPTAIN and striker will be slopping out. You must be so proud of them!

  15. Some cause for optimism among Newcastle supporters, Newcastle aren't the only side to concede five this season at White Hart Lane. Man City beat Spurs 5-1....oh, hang on.

    Julian,
is that the best you got; an insult, nothing constructive?
My 'excuse of a team' has beaten your team consistently over the past 20 years or so. Finished 60 points ahead of you one season, the one where you got 15 points or was it the year you got 19 points?
    Deluded?
Not me pal. Barcelona and Inter Milan are still fresh in my mind.
By the way, making up the numbers is better than playing in the 3rd division which is what you were doing at the time.
And don't you think you are just 'making up the numbers' in the much maligned F.A. Cup? 'Cause i do. Arsenal won't even field their strongest team, that's how seriously theytake this pot . . . . . . and they will still beat you - pmsl.

That's a bit unfair Jonny. Sunderland have played in Europe. There was an episode of Auf Wiedersehen Pet where Sunderland were playing against Liége and Oz went to support them (even though he was a Newcastle supporter). So they have played in Europe, even though it was of course fictitious.
