Hampshire all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas has signed with Jaipur in the Indian Premier League, the first England international to do so.
Mascarenhas's (pictured centre) commitment to the Twenty20 IPL competition means that he will miss the start of the county season.
"We reached agreement at 2am today," Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove told Cricinfo.
"The deal is that he will have limited exposure to the IPL this season and will be a Hampshire player for the next two seasons.
"It takes into account the realities of the situation."
The IPL is at the second auction stage, with 14 further players signed up on Tuesday. Mascarenhas's fee amounted to $100,000.
The ECB are not required to give the explosive one-day international batsman clearance as he is not centrally contracted to the England set-up.
He shot to nationwide prominence in 2007 with 30 runs in the final over of a ODI against India then hit four consecutive sixes against New Zealand in a Twenty20 international. He can also bowl right-arm medium-fast.
His captain in county cricket Shane Warne will also lead him in India.
Australian Warne, who originally flagged Mascarenhas up in the national press for his domestic displays, has agreed to captain and coach Jaipur.
Players joining the IPL keep the amount bid for them in wages for their services over the six-week competition.
Australian all-rounder James Hopes and Pakistan batsman Misbah-ul Haq lead the list of other batsmen now allotted to teams.
