Albion unlikely to take Alby gamble

Fri 11 Apr, 11:30 AM

West Brom defender Martin Albrechtsen is recovering quickly from his groin injury - but is unlikely to be risked against Watford (5.20pm).The Denmark international, who has started Albion's last 19 matches, limped out of the midweek win at Blackpool after only 28 minutes.

Scans have revealed no major damage but, rather than risk him in the televised clash at The Hawthorns on Saturday evening, boss Tony Mowbray believes Tuesday's trip to Wolves is a more realistic target for Albrechtsen.

"Martin is alright. The scans have shown no tear, strain or any other damage," said Mowbray. "As I suspected on the night, it was just a fatigue injury - a tired groin.

"That said, we will wait and see whether we decide to give him an extra few days and start him training at the weekend or on Monday. We could consider using him on Saturday, but we probably won't."

Leon Barnett is likely to get the nod alongside Neil Clement in the centre of defence, while Kevin Phillips is expected to replace Luke Moore in attack after coming off the bench to bag a late brace against Blackpool.
