Burnley boss Owen Coyle said he will put "the long-term future of the club" ahead of any potential transfer targets this summer. The Clarets boss, who took over from Steve Cotterill in November last year, admits he has already drawn up a list of summer targets as he bids to strengthen his current crop for next term but insists he will not be held to ransom.
"I think it's common knowledge that we are searching for players," Coyle told the club's official website. "But we lost over £4million last year and chairman (Barry Kilby) and Brendan Flood dug into their own pockets.
"The bottom line is that if a player's value is £500,000 you are not going to pay £1.5 million for him. All you are doing is putting the club deeper into trouble.
"We have seen that happen at other clubs and it's a downward spiral. I have said that we will look to put building blocks into place for the long-term future of the club.
"We know where we need to strengthen and it's fair to say we have been scouring world wide and we will try to move those on. We know where we need to strengthen and it's one or two - it will be a hectic summer."
