Robins waiting on Spencer update

Fri 11 Apr, 04:45 PM

Cheltenham manager Keith Downing is sweating on the fitness of striker Damian Spencer ahead of the visit of play-off hopefuls Walsall.Striker Spencer visited a specialist on Thursday as the club bid to get to the bottom of his knee injury problems and his participation on Saturday remains in doubt.

Alex Russell returned to training following a stomach injury ahead of last week's defeat at Nottingham Forest but was not risked, however the on-loan Bristol City midfielder could feature against the Saddlers if he proves his fitness.

Full-back Alan Wright is also a doubt with a niggling Achilles problem but he too will be given every chance to play.

Craig Armstrong has recovered from an ankle problem but Michael Townsend (illness), Gavin Caines (knee) and John Finnigan (ankle) are still on the sidelines.

Last week's defeat at Forest ended a five-game unbeaten run for the Robins, who currently lie four points above the drop zone.
