CSC the team to beat in Paris-Roubaix

Eurosport - Fri, 11 Apr 10:11:00 2008

Luck and the weather play such a crucial role in the Paris-Roubaix that predictions are risky, but the focus of attention should be on Team CSC on the cobbled roads of northern France on Sunday.

The Danish team have won the last two editions of cycling's most spectacular one-day race.

While last year's winner Stuart O'Grady of Australia seems out of contention having not fully recovered from a bad crash in the Tour de France, 2006 champion Fabian Cancellara appears the strongest rider in the field having won three races this season.

Powerful Belgian team Quick Step cannot be counted out after Stijn Devolder won the Tour of Flanders last weekend, while former world champion Tom Boonen will be out to win his second Paris-Roubaix title after his 2005 victory.

Experience is a major factor over the cobbles, and past winners like Frenchman Frederic Guesdon, Swede Magnus Backstedt or Dutchman Servais Knaven cannot be ruled out. Veterans George Hincapie and Thor Hushovd will also be in the mix.
