Motherwell will represent Scotland in next season's UEFA Cup after Hibernian's 2-0 defeat to Celtic guaranteed third place for Mark McGhee's side.
McGhee, who took charge of Motherwell last summer, saw his side move to the brink of a European place with Saturday's 2-1 win over Aberdeen at Fir Park.
Hibernian's failure to take anything from their trip to Parkhead means they, like Dundee United, stand four points adrift of Motherwell with both having just one game each to play.
Motherwell have two matches remaining.
