In: Rafael Nadal
No great shock selecting Nadal for a claycourt tournament, but the fact that he suffered a surprise defeat to Juan Carlos Ferrero in Rome should reap benefits for Fantasy pickers. Firstly, the defeat will have afforded a few extra, unscheduled days off in which to recharge his weary batteries. And secondly, Rafa will surely now arrive in Germany with added motivation to a tournament where last year he lost his unbeaten claycourt record.
Out: Roger Federer
Federer suffered a shock defeat to Radek Stepanek in Rome, and the Swiss star admitted that he has a few problems with his game at the moment, not least of which his backhand. With Nadal fired up, and Novak Djokovic in some killer form, Federer is going to struggle to turn around his fortunes in Germany. Andy Roddick is another to avoid, the American suffered a muscle spasm in his back in his semi-final in Rome and is a doubt for Hamburg.

The Spaniard is one of our claycourt favourites with his two titles on the surface already this year. An impressive quarter-finals run in Rome, where he beat Munich champion Fernando Gonzalez before losing to Australian Open champion and eventual finalist Novak Djokovic, should only boost his confidence heading into another critical preparation for the French Open.
Out: Andy Murray
There is just no way you can justify picking Andy Murray for Hamburg. Despite his claims that his claycourt performances this season are better than his results suggest, it is results that matter in this business. The young Scot benefited from an injury to Juan Marin Del Potro to win in the first round in Rome, but he was soundly beaten by Wawrinka the next day and is showing a worrying trend of losing to lower-ranked players this year - something which he managed to avoid last season. Also, it is Murray's 21st birthday on the Thursday during the tournament; wouldn't his mum prefer him at home for his birthday tea?

The Russian had wins over Hyung-taik Lee and Juan Monaco in Rome and has already reached two Masters Series quarter-finals this season, in Miami and Monte Carlo. He also reached the last eight last season in Hamburg, a result which then inspired his best-ever run at a Grand Slam, where he reached the quarter-finals at Roland Garros before eventually losing to Djokovic.
Out: Stanislas Wawrinka
It might perhaps be unwise to suggest dropping a player that has reached the final in Rome, but a tough week may well take its toll on the Swiss number two - especially considering he reached the final of another claycourt tournament in Barcelona the week before. He's a strong kid, but 11 matches in the space of a fortnight will surely catch up with him.

The Spaniard is a good little claycourter and enters Hamburg with a fine win over Richard Gasquet in the first round in Rome under his belt.
Out: Michael Llodra
The lanky Frenchman hasn't won a match on the main tour since February, suffering first-round defeats in his last four tournaments.
