The Metropolitan Police have followed Millwall in praising the behaviour of their supporters during their play-off semi-final clash with Leeds.

Metropolitan and British Transport Police officers implemented a `pan-London' operation in partnership with the Lions and claim the day passed largely without incident.

Superintendent Peter Vincent said: "Over 13,000 fans attended the match on Saturday and the day largely passed off without any major incidents of disorder.

"Unfortunately, a few individuals had to be dealt with by stewards and police, resulting in four arrests.

"I would like to take this opportunity to praise not only the police officers and club officials involved in this operation but also the fans whose behaviour in the main was very reasonable."

  4. Superintendent Peter Vincent should have his Millwall season ticket revoked for comments like that , at least then he can concentrate on his political campaign for the BNP, Ha Ha . "Bring it on Thursday, let the football do the talking"

  5. if it had been leeds fans on the pitch shoving a player we would have been kicked out of play offs

  6. Andrexu2, please get the facts right mate, the couple who confronted the Goal Keeper, which I do not condone, have been dealt with by the club and were arrested and court action may follow, the rest were just a few peacefully celebrating our Goal, as I sain in previous post if the FA are going to investigate they should be investigating the many other clubs who have had a lot bigger pitch invasions than us.

I do hope Thursday passes off with no trouble from either sides supporters and may the best team win.

  10. Anthony, what's worrying is not just that Millwall thugs were not dealt with but that their actions were endorsed by the police! It's incerdible. What kind of a signal does this give to the thugs at Leeds? Whatever Millwall thugs did, Leeds thugs will want to out do.
Peter Vincent's nambypamby, suck-up comments are likely to send football back to the state it was in in the 1980s

  11. Peter vincent might well have spent the money on the British Armyto control the Millwall thugs.. look at the amount of Police that were involved.. If Millwall fans had a chance they would of been over to the Leeds Fans in the HEAVENS.. Millwall won the game and went home hapy.. they would of been singing a different tune had they of lost.. see how they behave on their day out at Leeds.. different story methinks!

  12. So, that's sorted: it's okay for Millwall fans to invade the pitch and throw objects at other sides' players and match officials; Superintendent of The Metroploitan Police, Peter Vincent has said so....
Has this guy got $%:t for brains? If it's okay for Millwall then it's okay for all fans to do the same, and pretty soon pitch invasions and assaults on players will become the norm.
The reason that these fans weren't rounded up, expelled from the ground and banned from attending future matches was becuase the police and stewards weren't doing their job. They were simply not in a position to take effective action because they had concentrated their crowd control on the 9991 Leeds fans.
Peter Vincent shold apologise and resign.

  15. Robert.inglis357, no its not ok and it was dealt with by the stewards and police and court action may be taken against the couple of individuals concerned.

But the press, as usual have blown things out of proportion, if the fa are going to investigate Millwall for pitch invasion then they have got to do it for all the other clubs involved in playoffs etc that have had much worse invasions.

Millwall have worked realy hard to combat any problems in the past but their name still gets draged through the mud.

Robert, May the best team win on Thursday and hope for an entertaing match.
