Premier League - Mascherano 'going nowhere'

Eurosport - Mon, 11 May 16:23:00 2009

Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano insists he sees his future at Liverpool.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Premier League Liverpool Javier Masherano - 0

Mascherano's future has been cast into some doubt of late by suggestions from the Argentina captain he had not ruled out a summer departure from Anfield.

Mascherano said: "My future is here. I am here and I will continue to give 100 per cent and it will always be like this. I think we have taken a big step this season, a really big step."

Mascherano added: "In the past three or four seasons Liverpool have lost the league maybe in December or January but this time we are there right at the very end of the season and we still have a chance so this is very important. Our job now is to continue to work hard and to improve because we have shown that we can win against the biggest teams."

The frustration for Liverpool is that they could end the campaign having scored more goals than Manchester United, lost just two games against United's four, achieved a bigger goal difference and also completed a double over the Old Trafford side.

Former West Ham men Mascherano and Yossi Benayoun played key roles in Saturday's 3-0 victory over their former club at the Boleyn Ground that put Liverpool top for 24 hours, before United comfortably beat Manchester City on Sunday.

United should seal the four points they need on Wednesday at Wigan and then at home to Arsenal on Saturday, and be crowned champions before Liverpool play next at West Brom on Sunday.

Benayoun said: "We put up a good performance at West Ham, but to score quickly took a lot of pressure off us.

"But it will still be difficult now to win the title. Manchester United are top and still have a game in hand, regardless of how well we play on Saturday. They have proved themselves over the years and are a very strong side.

"But we still hope they will slip up, although it could be all over by the weekend if they win their next two games with us not playing again until Sunday. If they do win their games they will deserve to be champions, but hopefully there will still be a chance left for us."

You stupid Scouse muppets don't get it, do you? It's the same old drivel, we are getting closer, a few more wins, blah, blah, yawn. We did the double over over United and Chelsea this year so we're almost there, blah, blah, yawn. Do you not realise you won't do the double over United and Chelsea every year. If you lost to United and Chelsea this season you would now be in 5th place, 21 points behind United, who would still have a game in hand. So wake up and smell the coffee and stop looking at the premier league through Scouse coloured glasses. The trouble with you Scousers is you think Liverpool are better than they really are. Take out Gerrard and Torres, who obviously both lack ambition otherwise they would join a club who might actually win something!!! Der! then all that is left is a load of @#$%! Can you not see it? Everyone else can. Never mind YNWA more like YAWN, YAWN, YAWN.

Yea Liverpool have lost 2 less games than Manchester United.... easy to forget they've also won 2 less games as well.
Yea Liverpool have scored more than Manchester United... easy to forget they've conceded more as well.
Not to forget they also played no less than 12 games against 10 men, and were awarded over 10 penalties in the games so far.
Not scoring in 180 minutes against Stoke isn't Premier League winning form. Not to mention they've played Tottenham twice and lost twice this season, with the third meeting coming up!

Liverpool can take heart from doing the double over Manchester United... but so did Manchester City, so did Arsenal etc. etc. in the last few years.
Pitiful thing is Liverpool will finish 4th next season despite all this shiite!! Arsenal will be a thousand times better next season. Chelsea have had the best first team this season, just that they were poorly managed especially over the Christmas period.
Liverpool need to stop looking for reasons and excuses for improvement or being the best at anything.

  10. If he stands by his words this is exactly what all teams need nowadays. A great player who see's an oppertunity of being in a very good (probably soon to be better) team heading in the right direction. There is every possibility at Liverpool. Its looking very positive for them and with a few better signings they can do some damage to the dominant Man U. I applaude him for this because its having belief in his team mates and his manager that they can do something special. Become a legend for the club.

  13. Unfortunately I think this year's league is already in the hands of the MU again, but we have gone a big step ahead in comparison with the previous seasons, when we lost the title before the transfer window in january. In this year, this achievement was enough from the United to win the PL, but it won't be enough in the next year! As the article said we scored more goals, and only lost two matches, less then Manchester and beat MU, Chelsea and play two drawns against Arsenal, so we have a better result against the three big teams, than anyone else in the PL.. We have to correct on the drawns, which are painful against for example Stoke city.. We shoud have to beat that team! We are better, stronger and faster and our game is nicer so far. And don't forget, that Voronin is hopefully coming back from Hertha, and he has improved this year, we will see what he can do in the next year, back to this league. I'm not disappointed, although the title was in our hands recently... We have learned about that, I hope so! Maybe we shoud buy an another striker with similar abilities (David Villa, Michael Owen or Alexandre Pato).
