Eurosport - Mon, 11 May 13:23:00 2009

Team news ahead of Monday's Premier League fixture, with Newcaslte boss Alan Shearer sweating on the fitness of several players.

FOOTBALL 2008-2009 Premier League Newcastle Alan Shearer - 0

Newcastle v Middlesbrough (Monday, 20:00)

A defeat for either of these North East rivals, currently three points adrift of safety, would almost certainly result in relegation.

Newcastle's Spanish trio Nacho (Achilles), Jose Enrique (hamstring) and Xisco (toe) are not expected to play again this season, while defender Steven Taylor (thigh) and midfielder Alan Smith (ankle) are doubts.

Boss Alan Shearer is also sweating over the fitness of midfielder Alan Smith, who suffered bleeding inside his thigh during the loss to Liverpool.

Boro are missing three defenders through injury: Emanuel Pogatetz (knee), Chris Riggott (ankle) and Andrew Taylor (hip) are all out.

  3. The standard of these messages is truly shocking.
As a neutral living in the North East, I would like to add my thoughts about both teams for tonight's game, but I don't see the point as I feel I would be trying to have a debate with chimpanzees.
Actually, I'm being unfair to chimpanzees. They could probably write some sensible, coherent and literate mails compared to this crowd.

  6. C'mon Boro ! This is it, the chance to save our season and perhaps many more. Defeat is more than just relegation, its worth millions of pounds to stay where we belong - send the geordies packing and lets move on to bigger games to come.

  12. The article's spot on, a loss either side and they're gone. Boro, Hull and Newcastle all have the same problem they just cannot seem to score goals or at least the right amount! Albion have risen from the dead - still going down but in what order will Newcastle be one of them? Boardroom f*ck ups have destroyed Newcastle.
