Blues look for quality

Mon 11 May, 03:38 PM

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has revealed his desire to attract one or two players of "real quality" to St Andrew's this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of maintaining the club's Premier League status.

The Blues boss has set his sights on around eight new faces over the next couple of months, and he knows the sort of impact top players can have at the top level - pointing to the signing of Christophe Dugarry back in 2003 as a prime example.

"We would like to add real quality to one or two areas," McLeish told the club's official website.

"When you don't have the quality and you can't get the A-list, you're going down to B, C and D in some cases. I need to try and get players of real character and significant quality. Now that we are a Premier League club again then players will more more interested in coming here.

"Dugarry was quality and he was the real difference to Birmingham that year."

McLeish admits bringing in a centre-back is crucial, but looking at the complete picture, he added: "With the loans that have left we'll probably need about eight players, but we'll have to acquire those eight through prudence and a bit of wheeling and dealing."

  1. Thanks Robert G for your negative comments, I'm assuming from your tirade, that you've never missed a home game ( or even a away 1 too ).I suppose your old armchair has given way to your mouth and your television has blown........ Well fellow bluenose, we need supporters who can support BCFC till the end of the road. Buy a season ticket, follow the team who may even surprise us all next season in the Premier league. I have supported BCFC thru thick n thin, I will SUPPORT BCF@#$%il I die. Only will our passion for the game and the new songs ( to be submitted )with at least 6 NEW players, keep us up. 6 points from the VILLA is a good start, Get BEHIND BCFC next season...............

  2. i watched the play off game last night and thought that ross wallace, the preston left back, looked very good just as he did against us. And to be fair, the blues philosophy is to sign anyone who can score a good goal against us. i.e bryan hughes and rowan vine :)

  6. I couldnt put it better, I dont think Murphy is fast enough at getting back either!
we possibly only need 4 quality players (2 in defence, 1 midfield, 1 attack) to stay up!

  7. Serious investment is needed at St. Andrews. It is obvious to all the Jaidi & (especially) Martin Taylor will be ripped to shreds in the Premier League... Ridgewell may just cope but I have concerns there too. Up front we have pace but not quality with Jerome... quality but not longevity in Philips, work rate but not prolific goalscoring in McFadden & not much else... where it will come from I'm not sure but I am more concerned that we will come straight back down than ever before. Please prove me wrong Mr Gold, Gold, Sullivan & Yeung...
